The rare hardback edition of Illustrated History of Canal & River Navigations by Edward Paget-Tomlinson is much more substantial than the paperback edition – forming a comprehensive reference work on the subject.
The book includes every aspect of the building and use of the British canals and waterways, from accounts of all known canals and their construction, to the sagas of canal-cutting, and the story of the craft that use them: keels, lighters, narrow boats, packets, rafts, scows, sloops, trows, tugs and wherries.
Well illustrated with 16 colour plates of the author’s own watercolours and numerous b/w drawings, photos, maps and diagrams.
The dust wrapper is in vg condition, clean and fresh, with bumping and a little creasing to the extremities, a .4 cm closed tear to the base of the spine and minor handling marks. The binding is secure and tight.
There are some minor marks to the outside edges of the pages. Inside, the content is clean and in near fine condition.
A nice copy of this handsome book.
