This scarce book, profusely illustrated with some 100 pictures, 25 maps and diagrams, explores the background to the battle, both in England and Scandinavia, contemporary military strategy and tactics, weapons and armour, the coinage of the period, and an account of all that is known of the warriors who took part. It includes in both Anglo-Saxon and in English translation the text of the poem it inspired and looks at the extraordinary circumstances of the survival of the poem.
The dust wrapper is in very good condition, with slight bumping to the extremities and minor handling marks.
The binding is square and tight.
There is some mild spotting to the edges of the pages in places.
Inside, there are a few stains to the margins of pages 43-49, otherwise, the content is clean and in very good condition.
